JA consultants John Guinness & Aurelio Pangilinan, from Bosch Braking Systems in St. Joe, taught the combined fifth grade classes of teachers Mrs. Linda Fish and Mrs. Sandra Puplis about different types of production. We students learned that Unit Production means one person completes an entire product. Mass Production means that many workers combine to produce a product in steps.

       We put theory into practice by assembling ball point pens. First, we tried Unit Production.

Unit Production Rules:

• Each team will consist of five workers and one leader.

• The workers will walk to the materials table, collect parts for one pen, walk back to the work area, and then assemble the pen. This process is repeated as many times as possible during a 2-minute period.

• The leader will collect the assembled pens, make sure they work, repair as neccesary, and then deliver the completed pens to the customer.

• The customer will make sure the pens are OK, log them on the production sheet, and then disassemble the pens.
